Commonwealth Games 2010

The Commonwealth Games 2010 is to be hosted by New Delhi in India from 3 October to 14 October. This is the nineteenth Commonwealth Games. It will also be the first time the Commonwealth Games will be held in India. The games will be the largest sport-event in Delhi and India after the Asian Games in 1982.

India won the bidding for the 2010 Commonwealth Games by defeating Canada by a margin of 46 votes to 22.

Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi Sports: XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi will feature following 17 sport:

8. Hockey
9. Lawn Bowls
10. Netball
11. Rugby Sevens
12. Shooting
13. Squash
14. Table Tennis

Venues of Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi
The XIX Commonwealth Games to be held in New Delhi, India, will feature 17 sports. These sports will take place at six different venue clusters and five stand-alone venues in New Delhi.
1. Ceremonies, Athletics, Lawn Bowls and Weightlifting will be held at Cluster I: Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex.
2. Cycling, Gymnastics and Wrestling will be held at Cluster II: Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.
3. Archery (Qualification Rounds) and Table Tennis will be held at Cluster III: Yamuna Sports Complex.
4. Badminton and Squash will be held at Cluster IV: Siri Fort Sports Complex.
5. Hockey and Archery Finals (India Gate) will be held at Cluster V: MDC National Stadium Complex.
6. Swimming and Boxing will be held at Cluster VI: Talkatora Garden Complex.

Apart from the above venues, 26 new training venues and 16 training venues are being constructed or upgraded.
All the venues for XIX Commonwealth Games maintain high international standards and follow all sports guidelines.

Accommodation for Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi
The XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi are scheduled from 3 October to 14 October, 2010. Fortunately, this is also the best time to travel to Delhi with an average temperature of about 22 Degree Celcius (71.5 Degree F).

The Accommodation Functional Area (FA), Organising Committee Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi (OC CWG Delhi 2010) in conjunction with the Games Travel Office (GTO) has secured a comprehensive range of hotel accommodation in and around Delhi exclusively for visitors who will travel to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games.

Major hotels include: The Park, The Hans, Radisson Hotel Marina, Janpath and Ramada Plaza.

Games Village for Commonwealth Games 2010, Delhi

The Games Village for XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi, India is a state-of-art architecture and infrastructure. The Village is developed along the east bank of the river Yamuna by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The site is located off the National Highway 24 adjacent to the Akshardham Temple at the Noida intersection.
The marvelous games village is a masterpiece of engineering and construction. It is designed to display Indian culture and hospitality. It is designed to meet all international standards and comfort of participating teams.
The whole of the Game Village is spread over an area of over 63.5 hectares or 158.4 acre with 14 blocks, 34 towers and 1,164 air-conditioned flats. It can accommodate around 8,000 athletes and team officials. The whole project has cost of over US$ 230.7 million.

Apart from accommodation for athletes and officials, the village also has training areas for athletics for sports like throwing events, swimming, weightlifting, wrestling and a fitness centre.
